Torchwood

Torchwood 2

I saw this spin off series last year on CBC – they showed the first season. It was spun off from Doctor Who with Captain Jack Harkness as the head of Torchwood – Cardiff.

From Wikipedia: “Torchwood is a science fiction drama television programme, created by Russell T Davies and stars John Barrowman and Eve Myles. It deals with the machinations and activities of the Cardiff branch of the fictional Torchwood Institute, who deal mainly with incidents involving extraterrestrials. An initial 13-part series was commissioned by the BBC as a spin-off from the long-running science fiction programme Doctor Who with which it is closely interlinked. The programme is produced in-house by BBC Wales, whose Head of Drama Julie Gardner serves as executive producer alongside Davies. The first two episodes of Series 1 of Torchwood premiered on 22 October 2006 on BBC Three and BBC HD with all subsequent episodes of that series shown at 10 p.m. on Sunday evenings.

As of 16 January 2008, the second series is being broadcast weekly on BBC Two.[1][2] On BBC America, Series 2 premiered on January 26, 2008.[3] As of 13 February 2008, new episodes will make their premiere broadcast on BBC Three at 9.50 p.m, and then at 10 p.m. every week thereafter. The episodes will continue to be broadcast at 9 p.m. on BBC Two whilst being simulcast in high-definition on BBC HD.”

I have been getting the second seasons episodes via bit torrent from Britain and it is just getting better. I got episode 8 last night and it was very interesting. I recommend this when it comes on CBC.

As for Doctor Who Doctor Who should be back in March with a new season. There was a Christmas episode about the Titanic (future version) and a short episode where two of the Doctors met in the Tardis. I am also looking forward to this being available.

There isn’t much good science fiction around nowadays but Doctor Who and Torchwood are filling the void quite well.

More Snow coming and other things

Posted by forestdragon on Tuesday, February 26, 2008

So we have 10-15 cm of snow coming in the next 36 hours or so and then on Friday there is a clipper coming with more of the white stuff.

Our friends from Toronto came for the weekend but it took them over 7 hours last Friday because of a snow storm that wasn’t supposed to be much. Anyhow, it was a good visit. We had a group over on Saturday night for a good meal and a great visit. We even had a Wii tournament – most of them were rookies and it showed. They all need some practice. They accused me of spending all my time playing the Wii.

We watched the Sens-Pens game and the Sens were lucky to come away with a win. I’m watching the Sens-Toronto game right now and the Sens aren’t doing it. Toronto leads 1-0. I support the Sens but I can’t see them going very far in the playoffs. First, there is no consistency in their play, you never know which team is going to show up. They got pushed around by Columbus and couldn’t match the physical level of play which is the way they play in the western conference. Next if you stop Alfredsson you’ve stopped the Sens. Paddock seems to be doing everything he can to destroy the confidence of Martin Gerber while going with Ray Emery who sucks. There may be some trades – too bad they can’t trade the coach – I just don’t get him and I don’t see him inspiring the team. Maybe Brian Murray should come back behind the bench after the trade deadline.  So the Sens got spanked good by the Leafs (5-0) and the Leafs were full value for their win.  It should make it easy for Murray to move some of the non performers – right now they would get knocked out in the first rounds – pray that they don’t play Washington who cleaned their clocks for a 4-0 record this year.

There is a federal budget tomorrow but we can’t expect much since they’ve already giving us tax relief. The changes from the economic statement will help us a lot.

More Snow – WTF

Posted by forestdragon on Friday, February 15, 2008

Valentines dinner went well, the ladies were very happy and said they felt like queens. The little extra effort paid off. A friend of ours in a similar situation – wife and surrogate called to see if he could catch us off guard but we bested him only because he doesn’t cook. A good laugh was had by all.

We had more snow last night seemed like around 4 inches when shovelling/snow blowing. The total to date is 292 cm (115 inches) of snow with a potential major storm coming on Sunday. This is currently the 7th worst snowfall in history. There is a winter storm warning developing that should hit us on Sunday afternoon although the details aren’t published yet but just what we don’t need – another winter storm. It’s a good thing we had the January melt because we lost about half the volume of snow and we could actually see over the snow banks but now the snow in my driveway is higher than the car parked there. Even in the paper they are talking about how people are getting tired of the snow and it’s really bad for people with seasonal affected disorder (SAD).

I use the webcam on the notebook to take the pictures. You can see there is a car there somewhere, the sun is out so the snow is melting on the black driveway.

So I have my shadows with me. Every time I change locations my three beasties follow me. You don’t have to worry about being alone with them around.  That’s Hugo Boss, Kita Kat, and Precious.
